Zero-Proof Spirits Hit the Market
Team Offbeat | 19 Sep

Forget Vodka and Gin, sophisticated non-alcoholic drinks are set to be the next big thing. We take a look at the latest in the alcohol-free category.

‘Booze Britain’ has lost some of its fizz with the number of Britons who regularly drink alcohol dropping to a 12-year low. Particularly prevalent among young people, there’s undeniably a fresh demand by those who enjoy the cocktail culture but who are health conscious or simply want to drink less alcohol.

A growing number of drinks producers are working to create zero-proof spirits (drinks that share many similarities with spirits but without the hard stuff!). Gone are the days of overly-sweet mocktails or boring lime and sodas – things are getting a bit more sophisticated.

Take Seedlip’s alternative range of classic cocktails, ‘Nogroni’, ‘Martino’ and ‘Nojito’! Emphasising the ‘no’ in cocktails, Seedlip’s founder, Ben Branson is taking things to the next level in the alcohol-free drinks category. ‘Spice 94’ is a complex combination of all spice, oak, lemon, cardamom, grapefruit and Cascarilla – a unique taste which does not aim to imitate the flavour of alcohol but seeks to rival it in its own right.

Another producer tapping into this growing market is Stryyk. Unashamedly, Stryyk’s drinks mimic the taste of existing spirits. Deconstructing the smell and taste of certain spirits, they have singled out specific flavours, spices and complexities that mimic the taste of alcohol. Their two offerings, ‘Stryyk Not Gin’ and ‘Stryyk Not Rum’, create that similar feeling of warmth you get from alcohol but without the headache the following day! Currently available in La Fromagerie, Caravan Group, Nine Lives and Bounce, be sure to sample Stryyk’s modern, flavour-driven alternatives.

So, what’s stopping you? With demand increasing every year, consider spicing up your zero-proof offering without compromising on taste, experience or calories. Cheers to that!
