This Weekend – Burns Night & Chinese New Year
Team Offbeat | 24 Jan

Always on the lookout for new and exciting culinary delights, this weekend we are spoilt for choice! Falling on the same weekend, we check out the best places to celebrate Burns Night and Chinese New Year.

Barge East

Raise a glass to the poet Robert Burns and have a hoolie on the River Lee. Expect a four course Scottish feast, a dram of whiskey and live music. Plus, there’ll also be vegan and vegetarian options!

Mac & Wild

Mac and Wild have a weekend line up of events to celebrate the Bard. Teaming up with Chivas, there’ll be whiskey blending classes alongside haggis making and live music. Get your tartan at the ready!

The Ceilidh Club

Dance the night away to a live band and work up an appetite at The Ceilidh Club. Tuck into a buffet of haggis, neeps and tatties and finally enjoy some traditional poetry readings.

London’s Chinese New Year

If Haggis isn’t your thing, get yourself to Soho for the Chinese New Year celebrations this Sunday. Kicking off at 10am, there’ll be colourful parades, performances and displays.

Harrods

Harrods have put together an afternoon tea with a Chinese twist to see in the new year. The exclusive menu features sweet delicacies and bespoke chocolates inspired by Chinese symbols of good luck, served alongside Hoisin duck sandwiches and Fenjiu jam filled scones.

Mamalan

For a more low-key celebration, head to Mamalan in Brixton or Clapham. Mamalan offers feel good Chinese food in a relaxed and friendly setting. We recommend the Wonton Noodle Soup and Prawn Dumplings for an indulgent and comforting treat.

Chinatown Stories

Discover London’s Chinatown on a walking tour from China Exchange. Led by community volunteers, the in-depth tour uncovers Chinatown’s unique history. If that’s not enough, a traditional feast will be served in one of Chinatown’s fantastic restaurants.

Whether you’re after aromatic Peking Duck or a hearty Cullen Skink, be sure not to miss out on the festivities this weekend!
