The Food-To-Go Market: What’s in Store?
Team Offbeat | 15 Mar

Taking ordering and dining to the next level, Deliveroo have launched their first automated food market in Singapore.

Switching things up, the futuristic 40-seater dine-in space is a hybrid of Deliveroo’s Edition’s ‘delivery only’ model and a market hall-type concept. The space features 10 kitchens under one roof and all food is available for delivery or dining-in.

Teaming up with San Francisco-based technology automation company, Eatsa, the site offers a fully-automated experience. Orders can be placed at one of the five kiosks onsite where customers enter their name and email address. Once confirmed, and following payment, an e-receipt is sent to the customer and the status of the order will appear on a digital board. ‘Digital boxes’ will show the customer’s name once the food is ready for collection. All the customer has to do is double tap the screen to open the door and collect their order.

Deliveroo Food Market succeeds where existing businesses frequently fail. A dedicated area for riders to wait helps to eliminate the problems experienced by restricted access for couriers, helping to achieve an overall more organised operation.

The purpose-built, eat-in and delivery concept presents a new and interesting evolution of the indoor-street food market model. Deliveroo’s latest endeavour presents the perfect solution to combine customer’s growing demands for a quick and diverse food offering in a casual and ‘on-demand’ format.

Is this the future for the humble street food market?
