London’s Latest Sustainable Casual Dining Openings
Team Offbeat | 15 Nov

From sustainable ingredients to responsible supply chains, we check out London’s latest and most innovative casual dining openings.

Simplicity Burger

Founder of meat-inspired restaurants, Smokehouse, Temper and Pitt Cue, Neil Rankin, has opened his latest restaurant ‘Simplicity Burger’. This time round, however, meat doesn’t feature on the menu.

Based in Shoreditch, Simplicity Burger is a plant-based casual dining concept. Made from a secret mixture of fermented soya, mushrooms, barley miso and potato protein, the result is a burger that resembles the taste and texture of a classic beef patty. Featuring a menu as simple as the brand name suggests, the compact, two-storey site also features a late-night, hip-hop, cocktail bar – simplicity at its finest!

The Borough Market Kitchen

To mark 21 years of being open to the public, Borough Market is launching a canteen-style operation at the heart of the marketplace. Guaranteeing the shortest supply chain possible, 20 stands will sell freshly prepared street food made using produce from Borough Market itself. Reflecting the diversity of the community they serve, cuisines from, ‘Horn OK Please’, ‘Applebees Fish’ and ‘Rudie’s Jerk Shack’ are just a few of the delicious options on offer.

What’s more, in a commitment to sustainability, the whole of Borough Market Kitchen will have a ban on single-use plastic and seating will be constructed from sustainably sourced materials.

Peckham Cellars

South of the river, Peckham Cellars is set to open later this month. Described as “a new neighbourhood wine bar and kitchen”, it will serve modern dishes from lunch through to dinner. The British and Mediterranean menu will be made using local suppliers such as ‘Flock and Herd’ and ‘London Smoke and Cure’, ensuring the best possible quality, taste and experience.

With a laidback atmosphere, the floor-to-ceiling warehouse-style site will serve wine and cocktails long into the evening and feature DJ’s at weekends. We can’t wait!
