In preparation for the weekend, we take a look at some of London’s best restaurants, inspired by international cuisine. From authentic Italian to classic Turkish and Indian establishments, here are three of London’s very best:
Marcella
Marcella is a charming little Italian restaurant which has recently popped up on Deptford’s high street. Little sister to Peckham’s critically acclaimed Artusi, Marcella offers authentic Italian cuisine. Moving away from your bog-standard pasta and pizza, it offers a more unique and unusual variety of Italian dishes which are prepared with great knowledge and care. The menu is simple, offering around 10 options daily, using the very best seasonal ingredients paired with a variety of authentic Italian wines. You get a sense for how economical the menu is, selecting the best British ingredients and creating new and inspiring recipes every day. The interior of the restaurant is simple yet savvy, combining neutral colours and wooden floors with sophisticated lighting. So, if venturing south of the river, do not miss the chance to visit this little gem.
Yosma
Yosma is an amalgamation of traditional Turkish meyhane-style feasting and high-end dining; combining wood-fired oven grills in an up-market Marylebone setting. The food is classic, full-flavoured Turkish cuisine and the drinks include Turkish wines and unusual cocktails made from the Turkish national liqueur, Raki. The spacious open-plan layout has a vintage inspired interior design with café style chairs, teal walls and chipped wall tiles. Yosma is worth checking out for authentic Turkish cuisine with a friendly vibe.
Kricket
Starting life a year and a half ago in a small shipping container at Pop Brixton, Kricket has launched a second site in Soho. The new bricks and mortar site combines British ingredients with Indian inspired flavours, offering modern Indian fusion plates in a relaxed setting. Spread over two floors, the restaurant is set around an open kitchen with counter dining to watch the action. The unique interior combines rugged industrial-chic with touches of gold glamour. For innovative modern Indian dishes, Kricket is definitely the place to visit and the Indian-spice infused cocktails are worth a try too!
