Food Intelligence in The Hospitality Industry
Team Offbeat | 05 Mar

The fast-moving casual dining sector is constantly evolving and Offbeat Creative is always on the lookout for the next big thing. Here, we check out Casual Dining’s Innovation Challenge winner, Yumpingo, for the lowdown on intelligent food technology.

London-based start-up Yumpingo is a food intelligence platform, providing real-time, dish-specific feedback from diners. Designed by digital entrepreneur Gary Goodman, the app is intended to give operators an insight into the minds and thoughts of their customers. By tracking Net Promoter Scores (NPS) for every venue, dish or employee, the technology can help gain unparalleled insight into the behaviour, preferences and loyalties of your customers. The technology effectively puts power in to the hands of your customers to allow them to help shape their own dining experiences.

How It Works

The data collected through Yumpingo devices at the end of the meal, allows establishments to understand their customers better. Replacing a traditional bill, guests complete a one minute online review via a branded hand-held tablet. The platform then analyses and breaks down the feedback into specific categories resulting in more concise data. This, in turn, facilitates more specific adjustments to products, services and marketing.

The software allows operators to take action on instant customer feedback enabling menu optimisation and therefore allowing diners to order more of the food they love. The app aids restaurants in giving live recommendations to guests which, in turn, improves the overall customer experience. Additionally, a paperless, more streamline billing process makes payment quicker, easier and generally more efficient. The customer should leave your establishment feeling satisfied and is more likely to return.

Currently an under-utilised tool in the restaurant industry, this type of food intelligence is set to be a game changer in the casual dining sector.  Stay tuned to be kept up-to-date with hospitality news and insights.
