4 Top Tips to Start a Casual Dining Business
Team Offbeat | 12 Apr

From first-hand experience to clear branding, here are our top tips on how to start your own casual dining business.

  1. Get Experience

Before planning your first bricks and mortar, take the opportunity to test out the market and your offering. No amount of market research can compare with good, old-fashioned, hands-on experience. It’s easier now, more than ever, to test out the water with a pop-up, supper club or street food stall. Indian small plates chain ‘Kricket’ are the perfect example. They opened their first operation in a twenty-seat shipping container at Pop Brixton in 2015. With a two-hour queue, it was clear they were doing something right. By 2017 they had opened their first two-storey restaurant in Soho and now have a total of three permanent sites across London.

  1. Be Different

Be better than the competition or don’t bother doing it all. If you are just as good as someone else, people will stick to the brand they already know. With so much choice on the market, consumers are looking for something unique in terms of both offering and experience. Be better or different to give your business the edge.

  1. Clever Interior Design

Don’t underestimate interior design. In today’s digital climate, design is almost as important as the food you serve. People want to go out for an experience and want to share this on the likes of Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat. Give your customers content fit for social media and watch as the customers come flocking.

  1. Clear Branding

The key to standing out in an over-saturated market is to deliver a clear message. Your consumers should understand exactly what your restaurant/coffee shop/bar is all about and this is all down to good branding. Be sure that your brand message is consistent and cohesive across all online platforms and in store to stay prominent and recognisable.
