3 Coffee Trends 2019

From Cannabidiol to cocktails, we check out the latest in coffee innovation for 2019.

  1. Cannabidiol

Better know as CBD, Cannabidiol is one of the 104 chemical compounds found in cannabis. Gaining momentum in the health and wellness sector, studies claim that CBD may help to treat a variety of ailments such as chronic pain, depression and anxiety. Added to coffee, CBD can alter the negative effects of caffeine. The non-psychoactive drug can help regulate your mood and immune responses to the point where caffeine jitters are eradicated. It seems CDB coffee makes for the ultimate combination!

  1. Cascara

The red cherry of the coffee fruit, which is usually discarded during the coffee-making process, is set to be prominent in 2019. With a push for food waste reduction, 2019 will see a greater drive for utilising otherwise useless produce. Not only avoiding unnecessary waste, the fruit also has many health benefits. Containing notable amounts of iron, fibre, antioxidants and protein, Cascara can be used as an additional ingredient in tea and coffee or even as a flour alternative. What are you waiting for? Get brewing!

  1. Cocktails

Thanks to the boom of the Espresso Martini, coffee cocktails have seen a popularity serge in recent years. The demand for coffee-based cocktails paired with an evening meal is on the increase, reinforcing the versatile nature of coffee. One brand taking note is Jameson who launched a coffee-flavoured whiskey last year in Ireland. Additionally, national bar group, The Alchemist, have adapted the classic Espresso Martini to create their Iced Charcoal Latte.

Why not get experimental this year and try a Flat White Russian or a Tia Maia Americano?!
